Recipe Ramblings

I have drawers stacked to the brim with recipe cards that are dog-eared, stained, weathered, crisp and clean, black-and-white, hand written. Any adjective you can think of most likely describes one of my cards.

Enchanting?

That's one for cinnamon pull apart bread. Loopy cursive scribbles on purple stationary.

Irresponsible?

The one for buttermilk pancakes. I dog-eared a piece of scrap paper, then ripped off that dog-ear. And wrote the recipe on that itsy-bitsy-triangle. (If recipe cards were people, this would so be the kid who does homework on the car ride to school). (If you are/were that person: No shame. I've done that before too...)

Analytical?

Definitely going to go with the bagel recipe card. A white-and-lined index card, with calculations and precisions and mathematical stuff, that for some reason makes me think the note card was a scientist in a past life.

I know...I'm weird.

Lemon Pull Apart Bread

Close up time on that lemon scented bread! Look how it shines under the spotlight! A true star!

Flowers and Rosemary in an empty Vanilla Extract bottle (I have a hard time letting go of empty vanilla extract bottles....)

Graham Crackers

Anyhoo: for some reason, you, my darling reader, have decided to click on my blog.

Maybe you happened upon it because you were doing extensive research about nutmegs and you were knee deep into Google, page 13 to be exact, and this blog showed up underneath a pop-up ad and a website "legally" selling portions of the Atlantic Ocean.

Or maybe your mom used to call you Nutmeg when you were younger. Like: You're cuckoo, ya little nutmeg. And maybe you found this part of the interweb in a fit of nostalgia.

Or maybe you just like baking blogs.

While I  hope it's the latter option, if you are researching nutmegs and/or reminiscing about your childhood: I'd be honored if my introductory blurb fueled a scientific breakthrough and/or reminded you of playgrounds and Hello Kitty band-aids.
Pumpkin Oatmeal Cookies

Either way, this is my little corner of the internet, and I'll be posting recipes galore (not just talking about my recipe cards....), (and yes those pictures are some of the goods I've made thus far).

This is my blog and I love you for looking at it.

  1. Dear Blogger,
This blog has inspired me in infinite ways. I hope to one day be as legendary a baker as you. Your "recipe ramblings" are anything but rambles, and hold a dear place in my heart. And to think, this morning, I woke up and assumed today would just be another ordinary day. Boy, was I wrong, because this blog is absolutely extraordinary.
    XOXO,
    Your Darling Reader

    1. OMG Susie!! You are a true gem! Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. I have to take a midterm tomorrow for my environmental science class, but I can't stop starting at the beautiful autumn background of your blog. It's simply mesmerizing. I feel as if I am sitting on a park bench in November, enjoying a pumpkin splice latte and reading a Jane Austen novel. But, unfortunately, I have to go read about the carbon cycle..Why can't we all lead lives as fabulous as yours?
      XOXO,
      Your Darling Reader
