Sunday Morning Classic Chocolate Chip


This Sunday morning had me craving December. It was chilly, dense with Fog, and I just wanted to watch the Thanksgiving episodes of Friends. (Which by the way is the best sitcom thanksgiving sitcom episodes). So I waltzed into the kitchen and danced while I baked.

And?

I loved every second of it.

Chocolate chip cookies bring out the inner 5 year old in each of us.

For me, it awakens the poufy-pink-dress-wearing kindergartner who woke up early on Sunday mornings to watch The Wild Thronberrys and that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen sitcom So Little Time, on a tiny TV in a tiny California apartment.

Sometimes days get stressful and weeks get long and you get anxious and-

My point is, sometimes you need a little chocolate chip. Ain't no shame in that. :)


These cookies are gorgeously delicious and cathartic. 

Crispy, chewy, dark-chocolatey, every morsel of the treat is sublime.

I subbed dark chocolate (recipe originally calls for bittersweet), and they were simply divine. In fact, I recommend using dark chocolate (even all you dark-chocolate-haters) because

1) There's not that many chocolate chunks in the cookie, so it won't be overload.
2) It'd be too sweet with milk or semi-sweet chocolate.
3) It's elegant. A grown up cookie.

The ratio of chocolate to dough is I'd say something like 2 or 3 chocolate chunks per cookie (and the cookies are fairly big), and before you go all: That's not enough chocolate! Trust me, you. will. love. it.

The actual cookie portion is mouth-wateringly amazing. It's buttery and brown sugary, and then when you get to the sophisticated dark chocolate, oh man oh man, no words. None. The sparse hills of chocolate beautifully complement the palette.

And? It only takes one bowl and one wooden spoon. Get your apron on and let's do this!
